    • Oluf og Johanne fikk husmannskontrakt i 1855 for seg, sine barn og sine barnebarn ved at de skulle "rydde, indhegne, bygge, beboe og bruge Pladsen Otterstad". Plassen skulle være avgiftsfri i 5 år og deretter skulle det betales en årlig leie på 2 spd eller ytes 12 arbeidsdager. Eieren skulle holde husmannen med hest 2 dager i våronna. Grunnen til at kontrakten i sammenligning med andre var meget rimelig, kom vel av at det var en av sønnene på gården som fikk den. (Oluf kom jo fra Odden).

      Otterstad var en forholdsvis stor husmannsplass ettersom den ved folke- og jordbrukstellinger i siste halvdel av 1800-tallet hadde 5 kyr, 5 auser, gris og noen geiter og det ble sådd 1 tn blandkorn og satt 2 tn poteter.
